Amphora’s client base in Japan has been growing steadily over the last few years. We visit Japan every three months and spend time in Osaka, Kyoto and Tokyo. The last trip saw James Fletcher flying out to Tokyo to meet David Jackson who was on the tail end of a trip from India. To say Tokyo is vast is an understatement but when we can find a break in the schedule a view is well worth seeking out.
The trip consisted of two events. The first was by invitation of the American Chamber of Commerce in Japan (ACCJ) to speak at one of their networking and passion Investing events. Established in 1948 as a means to further develop commerce between the United States of America and Japan, the ACCJ is a non-profit membership organization with offices in Tokyo, Osaka and Nagoya. The event itself was one of our “can you taste the difference?” wine tastings. A wonderful night where the audience was able to learn about the wine investment market coupled with a blind tasting consisting of Château Haut Brion 1998, La Reserve de Leoville Barton 2013 and a table wine from Sainsbury’s. More info on the even can be found here.
The second night was spent meeting up with existing clients along with a presentation for potential new investors. Luckily for us all involved spoke English so no presenting in Japanese. A pleasant night followed by a local meal and a few drinks.
Not wanting to pass up the opportunity for a bit of exploring in Tokyo we found the time to visit a wonderful art gallery amongst one of the many skyscraper in Roppongi Hills. A little bit of Japanese culture before heading to the airport for the flight back to London.
