Another Fine Wine Investments Trading Platform Launches
Fat Grape launches
Another fine wine investments online trading platform springs into existence. The enterprise, known as Fat Grape aims to be a decentralised trading platform for fine wine stocks. It will allow private businesses as well as individuals to trade fine wine by the case or bottle.
It aims to provide more competitive rates than much of the fine wine investments industry by simply establishing a platform for people to trade, and letting people take control of their own exchanges. For this reason, fees will be low, perhaps up to as much as 30 per cent below market value according to the website’s founder.
Despite being clearly aimed towards the fine wine investments market, there’s every chance that it could appeal to other industries and individuals. Hotel or restaurant businesses, as well as wine collectors may find it an easy way to sell old wine stocks, without worrying too much about making long term investment returns. The system aims to guarantee next day delivery, which will be of particular value to the latter category.
Digital fine wine investments trading platforms
After the launch of Cavex and Wineowners in just the last year, it seems there’s a competitive market developing for exchanges targeting towards the private investor and collector.
These companies each have their own unique selling points. Cavex focuses on trading execution for bonded stock, and offers an old-school bid/offer matching service. Wineowners positions itself as an all-inclusive storage, management and trading solution, where disparate cellars and collections can be run from a single virtual medium. Fat Grape aims to run a more retail-focused model, focused on swift delivery and ex-bond stock.
There seems to be a great deal of money and energy being spent on providing greater choice in the buying and selling of wine in the fine wine investments industry.
This can only be a good thing, since reducing the pricing power monopoly of the merchants will lead to a more transparent market place. It remains to be seen if there will be room for all players. Time will tell.
The best of both worlds with London wine investments
Unlike Amphora, companies like Cavex, Wineowners and Fat Grape do not provide advisory fine wine investment services. In fact, advice on which wines to buy is very much against the grain for such companies, as it limits the number of trades that they could potentially process.
For that reason, they’re a great opportunity for us to service our clients better, and provide better process both on entry to the market and when collecting profits upon sale.
